CVNE, Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, was founded in 1879 in Haro, Rioja, and is one of Spain’s historic family owned wineries. Established by brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, CVNE began in the renowned Barrio de la Estación and has remained under the stewardship of the same family for more than five generations.

Throughout its history, CVNE has combined traditional Rioja winemaking with innovation. Its historic winery is home to the distinctive Eiffel Cellar, created with an open, column free structure that improved the movement and handling of barrels. The winery later continued this progressive approach through gravity led winemaking, helping to preserve the natural character of the grapes.

CVNE’s history is also closely linked to several celebrated Spanish wine labels. Monopole was first produced in 1915, while Imperial emerged in the 1920s and became one of the winery’s best known Rioja wines. In 1973, CVNE expanded its vision with Viñedos del Contino, one of Rioja’s pioneering single estate wineries.

Today, CVNE continues to build on its heritage through wineries and estates across Spain, while remaining deeply connected to its origins in Haro. Its history reflects more than a century of family ownership, Rioja tradition and continuous evolution in Spanish winemaking.
