Virgen del Galir was founded in 2002 in Éntoma, a small village in Valdeorras, Galicia. The winery takes its name from the Galir River and is closely connected to the steep vineyard landscapes that surround the valleys of the Galir and Sil rivers.

The estate works with more than 40 hectares of vineyards around Éntoma and Las Ermitas. Many of the vines are planted on terraces at more than 600 metres above sea level, with slopes reaching around 40 per cent. The vineyards feature the slate, clay and granite soils characteristic of the area, while the terraced cultivation reflects a tradition that dates back to Roman times.

Virgen del Galir focuses particularly on the native Godello and Mencía grape varieties, producing wines that aim to express the distinctive character of Valdeorras and its Atlantic influenced landscape. In 2018, the winery became part of CVNE, strengthening its presence within one of northern Spain’s most distinctive wine regions.

Today, Virgen del Galir continues to centre its identity on native grape varieties, steep hillside vineyards and a strong respect for the land and winemaking traditions of Valdeorras.
